RUPUNUNI EXCURSION

This 4 days/3 nights tour enables you to experience the Rupununi Savannahs of Guyana in the Pakaraima mountain range. Stay at the Rockview Lodge During your stay you will have the opportunity to see different species of birds and glimpses of wildlife during a jungle trail walk, enjoy horseback riding, enjoy delicious local meals, explore the Canopy walkway, visit with the Macushi Tribe of the Amerindian Village of Surnama and a lesurely boat ride down the Burro Burro River.

ITINERARY:

Start and End Point:
Ogle International Airport

DAY 1

After breakfast at your premium hotel, transfer via road to The Ogle International Airport, this departs around 10:30am to your first destination, Rock View Lodge.  Rock View Lodge is nestled between the Amerindian villages of Annai and Rupertee on the North Rupununi Savannahs of Guyana, where the foothills of the Pakaraima mountain range meet the tropical rainforest. The Iwokrama International Centre Field Research
Station, the Canopy Walkway, the fourteen villages of the indigenous Makushi people, excellent birding locations and other resorts such as Karanambu Resort and Cattle Ranch are easily accessible from Rock View. The Lodge may be reached by air or road from Georgetown and Brasil (Boa Vista and Bom Fin).

After lunch of local dishes, depart Rock View Lodge to visit the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, the new state of the art facility that winds through the treetops. Pass through 35 miles of unbroken rainforest to Guyana’s only canopy walkway, which offers magnificent view over the forest canopy ideal for bird watching and wildlife spotting.Transfer from Iwokrama Rainforest to Rock View Lodge to enjoy the sunset in the Rupununi Savannahs.



DAY 2

After breakfast, take a day tour of Surama Village.  The Amerindian community of Surama is located in the heart of Guyana. The village is set in five square miles of savannah which is ringed by the forest covered Pakaraima Mountains. Surama’s inhabitants are mainly from the Macushi tribe and still observe many of the traditional practises of their forebears.  A local guide will escort you for a short walk on a trail to observe the forest and bird life. As the afternoon cools your guide will take you on a tour of the village. Visit the local school, medical centre, church along with some of the village houses.  Our guides will then paddle you on the Burro Burro River for opportunities to observe Giant River Otters, Tapir, Tira, Spider Monkeys and many more species. Return to village for lunch before departing Surama.



DAY 3

After Breakfast, prepare for your scheduled flight which departs Annai Airstrip for The Ogle International Airport.
