Amerindian community of the Makushi tribe that lives in the Rupununi region of Guyana. The village and Eco-Lodge are situated on 5 square miles of savannah land located about 6km from the Georgetown/Lethem Road.
	Surrounding the village and lodge are the Pakaraima foothills, the pristine rainforest and the Burro-Burro River. Lifestyle is comparatively simple and uncomplicated, only requiring that you relax and enjoy the nature without harming it. When visiting Surama, you can experience any of natural wonders offered by this oasis. Visitors are guided on excursions through the village, to Burro-Burro River, Tiger Pond, Surama Mountain and the Carahaa Landing according to the tour package they choose. Surama’s population is for the most part Amerindian and numbers 287. The settlement existed previously but was very small until 1974 when R. F. Allicock and T. V. Allicock invited companions from Kwatamang and Wowetta to join and organize a proper village system
